Some of you may remember I had a forum game running called "Deny Your Mortality" a.k.a. DYM. It was short lived due to the fact i couldnt keep up with it due to personal issues. But ive decided to take another go at it and really try to get it going. Some of you participated in it the first time around so you know how it goes. I'll probably redo some aspects of it but for those of you who dont know, heres how it worked.
It was similar to this in the sense it was a round based multiplayer game in a similar format. Now the difference is the game itself being played does not involve anyone going against another but instead cooperating as a whole to survive. Youre enemy in this case is not among you, but instead all around you. You also create a character which you can use in all games or make a new one each time. You basically give this character a name, physical specs, clothing, a personality and such, and these factors can affect the game. And i keep everyones characters on record to ensure theyre always there when you want and can always check the specs you set for them.
You work together to survive a certain situation in a certain setting by planning and deciding on the next best course of action based on the given variables and such.
So how it goes is:
A pre-game prologue sort of thing gives you an idea of the situation you'll be in, the preface to round 1 in order to set the mood, environment, characters in some cases, ect.
Round one begins soon after and leads off from where the story last was. Players are presented with a situation of some kind and at some point it will come to a pause of sorts. (For example: group runs outside to see alien bunnys invading. Runs in terror to nearby strip club. Considers staying for a drink. Bartender is an alien. Drink break reconsidered. Group escapes to walmart. Retreats to the safety of the toy isle.) Once that takes place the group will talk out ideas for the next best course of action. In some cases more details will be given on the area, such as how one game had a basic map i made they could use.
The game revolves around the players characters and the players decisions shaping the story. Character traits can affect the story such as personality, clothing, ect.
After deciding, when round 2 comes around the story will move on. Youre decided course of action will take place and the story will continue in one way or another. Now the goal is to survive, to beat the odds, and deny your mortality. That, or you die trying. There are all kinds of possible situations. Stranded on an island, aliens, lost at sea, zombie apocalypse, trapped in a mansion with killers. Ect.
I try to keep it as creative as possible so its not repetitive or boring.
Anyhow aside from redoing the site a bit, id like to know if anyones interested.
I'll post an example of an old round or two in a bit for those of you who may want to see how it works.
