There are a couple of films, TV shows, books, anime or manga out there with the same premise as the manga “Doubt”: a killer is among a group of people and kills them one by one.
Murder-mystery movies when we have a killer among a group of suspects generally belong to the genre called Whodunnit. The manga Doubt is a special type of Whodunnit since the suspects are eliminated one by one.
As an example, the Hercule Poirot series is a Whodunnit, since in each episode we have a crime and a pool of suspects.
Since I’m sure everyone in here would like this genre, I propose we compile a list of Whodunnit movies, TV shows, books, anime or manga similar to the story of “Doubt”. If you want, also mention some comments about the said movies/TV show/book etc. so that everyone else would know if it’s worth watching.
I’ll start with some of the ones I know.
These are strictly Whodunnit-s with the same premise as Rabbit Doubt, meaning that the suspects are being killed off one by one.:
“Judge” manga by Tonogai Yoshiki
Not really sure if this is a Whodunnit, but it’s a sequel to Doubt. I’m sure most of you knew about this one, but it had to be mentioned.
“10 Little Indians” or “And then There Were None” by Agatha Christie
A classic. I haven’t read the novel, but there are more than one movie adaptations of this novel. Personally, I’ve seen the one in 1945 (don’t recommend it – they changed the ending for this one and it actually has a little bit of comedy/parody mixed in) and the Russian version “Desyat negrityat” from 1987. I recommend watching the Russian version since it’s darker in nature and stays more loyal to the original story.
Here is the trailer for another movie, from 1974, because it’s in English. I haven’t seen this one though.
Clue (1985)
Great movie. Never gets old. Great characters, great comedy. Recommend it 100%.
Harper’s Island (2009)
Big, happy wedding on an island + insane serial killer = a lot of murders.
It’s a 13-episode TV show. I kind of liked it, but some things were a bit stretched and forced.
Mindhunters (2004)
If I were to give this movie a grade, I’d give it a 6.7/10. I didn’t find it that good, but it wasn’t bad either.
Kuronezumi/Black Rat (2010)
This one is so bad it’s fun to watch. We saw it on stream on a movie night. We should do that again some time!
Whodunnit? (2013)
A reality TV show with 13 people participating in a “game of murder”. In each episode one of them is “killed” and the remaining contestants have to figure out how the murder was committed. To do this they inspect the crime scene/the body/the last known location and solve riddles which give them clues on how the murder was committed.
I'm having a lot of fun watching this one, although I think i know who the killer is.
Devil (2010)
5 people stuck in an elevator + a detective trying to get them out from the control room. This movie has some supernatural elements in it, but it still has the “Whodunnit” element.
Life is Money (2011) - manga
10 people enter a contest to win some money. With each person's death, the prize for the other survivors increases. It also has luck involved as each round the players will have one of their senses removed. I enjoyed reading it.
Any other suggestions? Leave them here.
If you also want to list normal Whodunnit movies/books etc. (where just a few people die), feel free to do so.
